What is a Doula?
A Doula accompanies women in labor to help ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. We support you and your family with the birth that YOU want. Doulas offer physical and emotional support, help you deal with the unexpected, and most importantly empower you! We serve all families with highly compassionate support, unbiased information as well as passion. We all come with experience and specialized training to help you make the most educated and empowered decisions regarding your birth possible. Doulas who are present during birth provide continuous in-person support during labor. While Postpartum doulas assist with the transition into your new role of becoming parents (again if this 2nd + birth).
As your Doula, we are working for you, not your caregiver or the hospital. We believe that you are in charge of your own birth and that we are the invited guest. We are there to serve you and help you have the type of birth you have envisioned for yourself.
We also strongly support siblings and their families as well. If you are preparing for your second, third or even fourth child, we assist with sibling involvement and helping children understand the transition and changes that will soon take place so they can cope with the newest addition to the family.
Why do you need a Doula?
A labor doula will meet with the woman and her family prenatally to discuss the woman's birth desires. She will help the soon-to-be parent(s) develop a birth plan and understand all the choices that encompass
pregnancy, childbirth, and the early postpartum period.
11 independent studies have proven the following benefits to having a doula present at your birth:
50% reduction in the cesarean rate
25% shorter labor
60% reduction in epidural requests
40% reduction in Pitocin/Oxytocin use
30% reduction in analgesia use
40% reduction in forceps delivery
